Livestock & Dairy Development Board (LDDB) conducted a National workshop on Genetic Improvement of Livestock Breeds in Pakistan at NARC on Jan 06, 2020.
LDDB in partnership with Animal Science Institute has developed a concept paper for PSDP project, namely “Coordinated National Program for the Genetic Improvement of Livestock Breeds for Milk & Meat”. To build a consensus on the proposed project LDDB conducted a National Workshop at National Agriculture & Research Center Islamabad today. This workshop was focused on productivity enhancement of livestock sector through increasing the genetic potential of farm animals. Livestock technical experts, genetics scientists and researchers from all over Pakistan attended the national workshop. Deputy Chairman Planning Muhammad Jehanzeb graced the event as the chief guest. Member Food Security Planning & Development Dr. Hamid Jalil, CEO Livestock & Dairy Development Board Dr.Fateh Ullah officials from Planning Commission and other were also present at the national Workshop on Genetic Improvement of Livestock Breeds in Pakistan.

Training of Trainers on Business Models for Calf Rearing & Feedlot at UVAS Livestock and dairy Development board , Islamabad in collaboration with The University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences lahore and Livestock and Dairy Development Department (L&DD) Punjab, KP, ICT, AJK and GB organised a five days Training of Trainers on “Business Models for Calf Rearing & Feedlot Fattening” under the Prime Minister Special Initiatives for Livestock Projects at the UVAS Veterinary Academy from November 9 to 13, 2020. The closing Ceremony of the 5 days’ workshop held on Friday at UVAS training Academy.

Minister for Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab Sardar Husnain Bahadur Dareshak presided over the concluding session of training workshop and distributed certificates among the 32 participants. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Nasim Ahmad, LDDB Chief Executive Officer Dr. M Fatah Ullah Khan, Additional Secretary (Technical) Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab Dr. Iqbal Shahid, Additional Secretary (Planning) Ch.  Muhammad Khalid, IVPD Project Director Dr Muhammad Ikram, Project Manager LDDB Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Kiani while officials from Provincial Livestock Department, progressive farmers, representatives from Dairy-Beef Project, UVAS faculty members and 32 participants from Punjab, KPK and Gilgit Baltistan were present in the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the Livestock Minister said that such trainings are very necessary for trainers for providing the best veterinary services to livestock farmers. He said we need to save water resources if we want to increase meat production in Pakistan. He said that 15,000 litre water intake is required to increase one kg meat. He said that only those officers are selected for national and international workshops, who are loyal to his profession and want to play a vital role for the development of livestock sector.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS is providing a platform in the form of recently developed Veterinary Academy to the professionals from the public and private sectors for enhancing their professional competencies.

Dr. M Fatah Ullah Khan said that the government is focusing on the development of livestock sector on modern lines to cater the needs of country and enhance exports of dairy & beef products. He said that three projects of the Prime Minister Special Initiatives for Livestock including Save the Young Calf, Calf Rearing & Feedlot Fattening and Backyard Poultry, are running successfully.

The training sessions were conducted by panel of technical experts. Dr. Muhammad Zafarullah khan conducted technical session on business model on calf rearing while Dr. Makhdoom Jabbar conducted session on feedlot fattening. Dr. Humera and dairy beef project team shared their experience with small holders farmers on cooperative model. Dr Muhammad Mohsin kiani and lddb monitoring team conducted special session on project management and monitoring protocol for PMI projects. Trainees were further visited to small holders cooperative model at Okara, Oasis commercial feedlot farm lhr , Meat sciences department and butchery shop at UVAS and Abeddin international Meat processing plant , Raiwand for practical demonstration of business models in meat value chain and to aware participants about the new innovative approaches and promote trends to replicate such business models in the country. At the end of the training, guests from The Marketing Heaven, who are credited with bringing together such a large number of people, held a short lecture and introduced participants to the key elements of a successful media promotion of products.

The workshop was aimed to enhance dairy and beef production to cater the needs of the country and promotion of livestock sector under the vision of Prime Minister. During the training, experts delivered lectures on ration formulation, livestock farming, dairy farming on modern lines and improvement of supply chain. The workshop was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Kiani Project Manager, LDDB to all participants, trainers, livestock departments, UVAS management and all business organizations for their precious time and cooperation to impart the successful training event.

LDDB launched 5 Days Training Workshops on Business Models for Calf Rearing and Feedlot Fattening at UVAS Lahore*.

Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) launched a 5 days Training of Trainers on Business Models for Calf Rearing and Feedlot Fattening under PM’s Special Initiative projects for livestock at Veterinary Academy UVAS Lahore. This special training workshop is launched to increase meat production and to promote the livestock industry of Pakistan. Participants from Livestock and Dairy Development Board Islamabad, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Provincial and Regional Livestock Departments are attending the workshop. Progressive Farmers, Private Sector and Dairy Beef Project officials are also the part. During the 5-day training Session participation will be trained on modern dairy farming and supply chain improvement, strategies regarding PM’s special initiative livestock projects will also be discussed. Officials say that: government wants to develop the livestock sector to meet not only the needs of the country but also to increase exports of meat and meat products of Pakistan. This Training Session will be continue till Friday Nov 13, 2020.

The Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) in collaboration with USAID Pakistan, and the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore today launched the Pakistan Feedstuffs Database. The database is an updated and authentic resource of livestock feed ingredients including grains, by-products, and fodder available in Pakistan. CEO Livestock and Dairy Development Board Dr. Fatah Ullah Khan and Director Office of Economic Growth and Agriculture USAID Pakistan Mark Tegenfeldt joined the virtual ceremony as guests of honor.Senior officials from the Ministry of National Food Security, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council, USAID, UVAS, LDDB, dignitaries from public and private sector institutions, progressive farmers, and feed manufacturers were also joined the virtual launch of the database.

Dairy Beef Project Team from University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore visited Livestock & Dairy Development Board. UVAS Delegation led by project Manager Dr.Humera Iqbal meet PMU Officials and discussed matters of mutual interest. In consultative meeting at LDDB both sides discussed about strengthening the collaboration and developing training modules for TOT on save the calf and feedlot fattening business models.
